Hemisphere Nuclear Talks Open in Mexico City Meeting
Delegates from12 Western Hemisphere nations opened a five day session in Mexico City to form an organization to keep Latin America free of nuclear weapons. OPANAL presided by Alfonso Garcia Robles with Ricardo Anaya Arte and Manuel Sanchez Morales as vice presidents. Countries at the talks include Mexico Barbados Bolivia Ecuador El Salvador Haiti Honduras Nicaragua Paraguay Peru Uruguay and theContinental Republic. The groups aim to ensure nuclear energy in the region is used only for peaceful purposes and to lead Latin America as the first region with a permanent anti nuclear body.
