Historic steel labor pact ends wage hike talks
Pittsburgh AP reports a 21 month steel industry agreement without a wage increase. It links a new extended 13 week vacation plan to seniority, health and life insurance, job class revisions, and hospital maintenance provisions across major producers led by United Steelworkers and big companies like United States Steel, Bethlehem Steel, and Republic Steel. The pact aims to reduce conflicts during the 1964 election and is set to start August 1 with 120 days notice for termination.
