Cotulla and Columbus Hit by Rising Colorado Floods
Water from the Colorado River backed up Mustang Creek flooding Cotulla's east side and burying the baseball park. In Columbus more than 100 homes remained deserted as residents moved to safety with highway routes impassable. Floodwaters spread a mile wide east of town and eight miles downstream, while cattle were moved to high ground and tents supplied for the homeless. The Guadalupe crest near Gonzales had passed and the river began to fall, with 20.8 feet above normal at 7 am.
