Normandie Sets Transatlantic Speed Record Overnight

The Normandie, a 8000-ton French liner, crossed Ambrose Light at 12:02 a.m. E.D.T. to set a record of 4 days, 11 hours, 42 minutes for the Atlantic crossing. Distance from Southampton breakwater to Ambrose Light recorded at 3194 miles. Miniature medals with blue ribbons distributed to passengers as the ship exceeded schedule by several minutes and averaged 31.55 knots on the last 23 hours of the run.

Volney Davis, 33, long linked to the Barker-Karpis gang, pleads guilty in St Paul to part in the 200000 Bremer kidnapping of banker Edward G Bremer. Barger Held In Robberies

Alton Wright a 29 year old barber was booked for robbery by assault in connection with two stick ups Friday night. Wright arrested at his home Sunday by Detective A G Lankford and Jim Cravens was identified as the bandit who held up an Ivory Black taxi and a Public Service bus. Taxi driver Lonnie Beard robbed of his cab and seven twenty after 11 p m Friday then forced to flag down a South Flores street bus driven by Ed Quintana. The bandit boarded the bus and took $12 63 and $12 in oliens from the Giver. He ordered the bus driver to return Wright to town and escaped in the taxi. The taxi was recovered 30 minutes later on the Concepelan road near Mitchell street. Consistent Light Classified advertising will do the job. Dial F 12831 for adwriter.
