San Antonio attorney Jack F. Ridgeway was named legislative officer for the Texas Department of Veterans of Foreign Wars at the Sam Treaston Post No. 76 meeting. Ridgeway assumes duties shaping VFW lobbying and advocacy within the state.
One bid remains on file for the city's 700000 improvement bond issue now tied up in court. Halsey Stuart Company of Chicago held the bid, expiring September 7 if bonds are not delivered. the bid was previously withdrawn. Dallas Rupe and Son of Dallas had the lowest bid but withdrew Wednesday. The city will advertise for new bids.
July 23 report from Taylor notes A C Campbell Jr. set a record time for parking and exiting at noon after discovering a snake in his car. Passersby in a downtown area saw a three-foot chicken snake crawl out of the vehicle and be killed by bystanders.
Jeb Trek and Antonians aided the Burns family after they walked from Carlsbad New Mexico 110 days seeking work and shelter. The family found a home at 1210 Van Ness street with help from local donors including Maj. Raymond McNeiland of the Salvation Army and several San Antonio residents. Contributions came as neighbors and relief organizations rallied, with offers of food clothing and a farm job nearby. Burns expressed gratitude and relief at the help and their new settled surroundings.
Burglars broke into the River side Barber shop at 213 South Alamo Street early Thursday and left with $100 from the cash register, according to manager Ciilo Rangel who said the intruders entered via a river side trapdoor. A $73 rug was later reported missing by Mrs. George Knolls of 111 South Mesquite Street.
The Third annual Southwestern regional conference of the American Listique of Banking will be held in San Antonio August 3 in the Plaza hotel. Leroy Lewis, national assistant educational director, will be guest speaker. H. Waldo Graff of the national executive committee will preside. Services for S. M Mitch Owens a ranch owner in Crockett county were held here Wednesday afternoon with burial at Ozona. He died early Monday at his ranch near Rankin in Crockett county Texas all details from the obituary indicate a local ranching figure.
