Two army officers are under investigation for theft of 50000 dollars in gold coins in the Pacific military theater. The war department disclosed the inquiry and declined to release details. Col. James R. Pierce is named in the communique with additional facts to follow when safe to release.
Two local physicians gain recognition in American Men of Science. Dr. Herbert J. Schullenberg, consultant pathologist, cited for immunity, cancer and lung infections. Col. Charles Franklin Craig, editor of the American Journal of Tropical Medicine, noted for tropical disease work and epidemiology.
Maj Alexander de Seversky, noted aerial warfare proponent, viewed Bikini target area from an observation plane for about one hour and forty minutes. He landed at Kwajalein after surveying the atomic blast and said the shock waves and cloud altitude were striking.
