Bell plans rapid expansion in San Antonio area
Bell Telephone Co. will finish moving its area headquarters to a new $6 million addition at 110 N. Saint Marys in San Antonio by late spring. Additional $3.5 million in nearby construction, $2.8 million for equipment, and $70.6 million for 1968 improvements are planned as the company grows from Amarillo to Brownsville. The move boosts payroll in San Antonio to over $15 million and reaffirms Southwestern Bell as the city's largest taxpayer with more than 368,000 telephones in the metro area at year end.
