Decorations Presented at Hondo Field
Decorations for gallantry in combat were awarded to three Army Air Force heroes at Hondo Field on Saturday. Col. William R. Bradford of the Bamboo Fleet receives the Distinguished Flying Cross for bravery delivering quinine to the Corregidor defenders. Posthumous award to Col. Bradford’s niece Mrs. Havel Burnett Jones who accepts for Maj. William C. Jones, killed in action piloting a Liberator to the Middle East. his Silver Star had been awarded earlier. Second Lieut. Olin J. Wimberly, navigator missing in the Southwest Pacific, will have his Silver Star presented by Col. Joseph M. Davidson. Wimberly, a 1942 Kelly Field graduate, is represented by his sister Mrs. James W. Voorhies. Lieut. Col. Geel HL Childre to command troops during review.
