About 325 troops from Fort Sheridan were drafted to assist Chicago stockyards as hog receipts reached a 10 year high with 54 000 hogs in one day at the world’s largest market. Farmers in the corn belt shipped 241 000 hogs to main terminals, leaving many unsold including 17 000 in Chicago.
