Readjustments after campaign gifts hunt at San Antonio tax office
Thirty firms accused of receiving personal property assessment increases in return for campaign contributions, with 152 owners named in the Rodgers report. Tax Commissioner Theo M. Plummer announced tentative hikes ranging from 1000 to 50 for those agreed upon, while 10 other firms will not be altered. Indicted official B Richard Mann and Frank Bushick Jr. referenced in a broader corruption claim, as Plummer vows full readjustment if elected. Real estate equalization is deemed necessary but not a broad rise, with downward pressure on values to ease city tax burden.
