King George VI set aside royal dignity to play Santa for two year old Bonnie Prince Charlie at Sandringham. He briefly appeared in red robes to inspect gifts under the Christmas tree before preparing for his Christmas day broadcast from the Norfolk estate. Tanker and Barge Collide in Mississippi River Fire
A collision between the Esso tanker SS Baltimore and a barge in the Mississippi River at New Orleans sparked a five hour blaze. Two crewmen from the tanker, John J Joyce and John A Triol, were treated for minor injuries and shock at Matine hospital. The wreck threatened nearby docks until the fireboat Deluge sank the drifting barge with water and extinguished the Baltimore fire aboard five hours after the crash.

Two Crash Victims Mourned on Snowy Mt Okanogan
Sixteen survivors of a Pacific Airlines twin engine crash near Mt Okanogan face Christmas prayers for two dead from Vancouver BC. Capt Quinton Moore and co pilot Leo Doutette died of injuries after the flight from Vancouver aimed for Calgary veered off course and crashed in a 5500 foot pine clearing. A rescue party removed bodies as weather delayed a helicopter lift. The survivors, uninjured, huddled by fires awaiting help and were later thanked as a miracle by Mary Wright of Vancouver.
