City to Motorize Garbage Department in San Antonio

San Antonio moves to replace horse drawn wagons with motor trucks and trailers. Commission approves purchase of ten additional trucks and eighteen trailers, bringing total to twenty three trucks. Prince Kuhio Opens Public Beach at Waikiki

HELP IN HARVEST HARVON CITY DRAFT WORKERS JOIN STATEWIDE EFFORT

In Huron South Dakota Aug 20 workers from cities rush to harvest fields to aid farmers in gathering a record crop. Businessmen swap offices for overalls and work late into the night earning 44 cents an hour, with wages often donated to the Red Cross or war funds. Women help in many areas as people from all walks of life join the effort.

Executive Officer Relieved at Kelly Field in Signal Corps

Lieut. Col. C. Danforth, longtime executive officer at Kelly Field, has been relieved of duty with the aviation section of the signal corps and ordered under reassignment to Camp Zachary Taylor in Louisville Kentucky. He began at Kelly Field early this year and previously commanded the second training brigade. His successor has not yet been named. Danforth began military service in 1898, rising from private to sergeant major and earning commissions in successive infantry units. He studied at Fort Leavenworth before becoming a first lieutenant in 1903 and serving until 1917 when he received another promotion.

Infantry Major Transferred to Aviation Section in 1928

In February 1928 he moved from infantry to the aviation section of the signal corps with the rank of lieutenant colonel. He is scheduled to be transferred back to infantry with the same lieutenant colonel rank.
