German Adventurers Fleece Immigrants in Texas Opera Debacle
The Adelsverein's early Texas venture ends in comic-opera fraud as nobles are swindled by Bourgeois and Ducas, Fisher and Miller, losing large land grants. Princes Carl of Solms Brampels, Leiningen, and others attempt settlements at Nassau Farm, Carlshafen, New Braunfels, and Lavaca Bay, with mixed success and lasting German influence on Texas culture.
