Mendoza Starts Early in bid for Place 9 re election

Councilman Leo Mendoza pushed his campaign for re election to Place 9 after a large early contribution and a late night supporters gathering. He claimed a commanding lead over GGL rival Robert Dunn and cited 16 000 votes cast for the other eight Place 9 candidates as buoying his path to victory. Mendoza spoke at the Travelodge near the courthouse and at the Gunter Hotel party for Becker while denouncing the GGL and its backers. He credited Albert Bus tamante with endorsing him despite other city race loyalties and warned that the GGL smear campaign faced resistance as Mendoza rallied supporters into strategy sessions.
