Padilla Wins Reelection Without Opposition in City Race
Padilla, appointed last year to fill the unexpired term of Felix Trevino, was reelected as an independent with no GGL opposition. He praised supporters and endorsed Charles Becker and Leo Mendoza for their runoffs. Padilla told supporters he would back Becker and Mendoza, speaking at a Victory Party at the Travelodge Motel near the courthouse. Becker and Mendoza gained momentum as Mendoza joined the GGL ticket shortly before the filing deadline. Padilla’s diverse coalition included liberals moderates and conservatives gathering over 200 people at peak.
