Hornets cruise past Bulldogs in a decisive conference clash as fans celebrate. Police report nine additional youths detained over bomb threats targeting Saline High School with multiple evacuations in recent days though no explosives found.

In front of about 5000 fans at Saline, the Hornets defeated Chelsea 14 3 to take early control of the SE Conference race. George Danneffel rushed 81 yards for Saline's first score and Scott Skinner added the extra point to seal the win.

Junior Bulldogs Claim Derby Over Chelsea J.V.

Chelsea's junior varsity dominated the Chelsea rival 14-0 as Jayvees failed to reach pay dirt despite three drives inside the 10. Freshman Paul Nagle sparked a 55-yard scoring run in the Hornets 28-6 loss to Chelsea. Middle school eighth graders edged Lincoln 16-14 led by Dick Marston tackles and Larry Hoffman passes. Seventh graders, led by Mike McGuire and Charlie Caswell, won 12-8 in a defensive battle. Coach Koppleman stressed giving more players game experience.

Flag Football Heats Up at Saline Field in 1972

Saline recreation flag football league opened with four teams. Pabst Blue Ribbon beat Chris' Clark 100 & Ruby Tire 34-12 as Jerry Hill scored twice and Bruce Morton connected a TD pass to Mike Barland. Morton also led a 40 yard scoring run by Rod Balyeat. Community Ford won 30-10 over Thompson's Lounge. Tuesday Community Ford defeated Clark 160 & Ruby Tire 24-14 with Jim Troutman scoring twice.

Saline runners led by Jeff Lewis 16 21 Jim Martin 16 24 and Tom Mikesell 16 27 swept the top three as South Lyon placed fourth. Parker 16 46 Makinski 16 56 Sally 18 13 Hafner and Smith added strong times. Coach Jim Wicker praised PBs and eyed Pinckney Invitational October 5 against tough foes.
