Fire Damages Herter Home As Onlookers Save Contents
A fire of unknown origin caused smoke and water damage at the Reuben Herter home located at 6405 W Ellsworth Rd. Spectators including high school boys helped remove furniture and valuables with only slight damage to the family. Saline firemen fought the blaze for nearly two hours, starting near the upper portion of the two story house. The front porch and siding were destroyed before firefighters gained control.

The 28th Saline Community Fair opened in good weather drawing many visitors and a rush of exhibits. Sixty two merchants booths plus auto dealers filled the grounds while the school gym housed 97 baby photos and growing displays of baked goods flowers and antiques. Livestock arrivals were later with sheep up rabbits poultry rising and a full pony tent. officials expect a record fair.
