Saline ties shine at Michigan State Fair ribbons and titles
Salinians earned top honors at the Michigan State Fair in Detroit. Donald Finkbeiner won the potato sweepstakes with Red Pontiac potatoes. Nancy Diable claimed Grand Champion with a Waters Road Angus heifer, while the national Angus queen earned Reserve Champion in junior show with an Angus steer. Mary Alice Girbach and Leon Gall won multiple champion ribbons in Hereford and polled Hereford classes. Sheep entries saw champions and reserves from Willow Road exhibitors, and Larry Boehm added a sweepstakes in sheep shearing. Jo-Kiowa Chief, a two year old Appaloosa stallion owned by Mike Elliott, won Reserve Grand Champion Stallion at the Michigan State Fair.

Saline High PTO Meet Set for Tuesday Evening
Saline High School plans its first PTO meeting Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the All-purpose room. Fire destroys Renkiewicz farm structures near Saline
A fast moving fire at the Michael Renkiewicz farm on West Michigan Tuesday leveled a wooden barn and surrounding buildings. Saline firefighters with Clinton tanker help battled the blaze for hours, saving a cement silo and a new milking parlor. Loss runs into thousands with cattle driven out. some calves perished. Fire Chief Armbruster cited spontaneous combustion as a likely cause.
