The Saline district plans a November 9 public meeting at Saline High School to elect a 30 member Citizens Advisory Council. Distribution of seats among townships and Saline city was set by census and valuation. The Board also approved selling 125000 notes against tax anticipation with Kenower MacArthur bid at 3 percent.
Only two requests have come in for absentee ballots for the Tuesday November 5 city election, according to city clerk E. J. Muir.
Saline’s 7th graders, coached by Joe Graf, finished an undefeated first season with a stout defense, rarely yielding a score and never crossing their own 38 yard line. They defeated Dundee 6-0 and Chelsea twice 12-0 and 18-0 while Manchester fell 18-0. key players included John Davis, Bobby Girbach, Jerry Lake, Charles Wahl, and Charles Karn.
A local astronaut was stunned and shaken when a parachute failed to deploy promptly during a Saline Rocketeers launch. The two stage rocket rose about 125 feet, with the parachute only opening 10 feet from ground. the passenger is reported in good condition.
Police responded Friday to 356 Hollywood Dr to free two year old John Shafer stuck between back and seat of a kitchen chair. The chair was broken to free him. he was uninjured. Eight months earlier sister Bonnie aged 3 was sawed free from a rocking chair by her father. Twin brother Greg has used chairs only for sitting. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Shafer are the children's parents.
A Saturday afternoon blaze at the John Marion farm 9311 W Michigan Ave Saline destroyed about 275 bushels of corn valued around 300 dollars. Saline firefighters spent about thirty minutes at the scene. the dryer unit was damaged but survived.
City Council hopefuls provide answers to a set of three questions about motivation, contributions, and areas of interest. The Saline area United Fund drive opened with a slow start as calls lag and reports from organizations businesses schools are unavailable. Only 348 dollars have been reported toward an 11 950 dollar 1964 goal, with fuller results expected next week. Citizens Bank and Saline Savings Bank serve as collection points.
A car owned by Edward L. Liebler of Dexter collided with a black Angus heifer on Weber road just before midnight Thursday. The heifer died. Passenger Bridget Golema, 18, of Hack Road, was taken to Saline Community hospital by passerby, examined, and released. The heifer was owned by Alfred Weisenreder.
Saline Play Center, Inc. will meet at 8 20 pm Monday at the home of Mrs. Larry Wimple 1178 Willis Rd. Co hostesses Mrs. David Hess.
The Pittsfield Grange notes 50 year membership honors with Golden Sheaf pins for Charles McCalla and Mrs. William Harwood and 25 year Silver Star pins for listed members. Master Herman Koenn presented pins, Secretary Erwin Frederick the certificates as the chapter recalls historic minutes and a founding member Flora McNitt remains active.
