Candace Jordan Builds Aid Network From Humble Start
Candace Jordan's drive began after a Biafra newsreel moved her to raise relief funds. She started with $500, then $600 from a film benefit, forming Americania for Children's Relief and expanding to a two-room office and a $100,000 yearly budget. The group runs health programs for migrant families in Delaware, mothers’ projects in Boston, a mobile unit for Indian families in California, and clinics in Maine and Harlem, aiming to ease poverty's impact.
