Saline Education Association and Board Move to Fact Finding
After a six hour mediation the Saline Education Association and Saline Area School Board remain divided on six issues. They agreed on two items coaches salaries and the duration of the 76 77 contract but added class size to the agenda. Both sides will present to fact finder Elaine Frost of Detroit on November 11 with remaining issues including salary insurance longevity agency shop evaluation procedures and the school calendar.

Halloween Police Report Highlights Local Vandalism
Police arrested a youth for malicious destruction of property and possible marijuana after paint was thrown on the Saline Police Department building. A chase followed a broken window in the Courtroom hallway caused by an egg. Open case for the 1963 Ford wagon damage at the High School shop. Stolen bicycles valued at 35 and 40 were reported, two mailboxes destroyed on Willis Rd, and 28 police runs tied to Halloween activities with 10 malicious destruction incidents.

George Anderson won a second two year term as Saline mayor in a near no contest with 1 766 votes. Don Shelton and Jerry Wright won council seats with 1 468 and 1 363 votes respectively while Harry Miller held his council seat with 1 247 votes. Two Fires Break Out On Election Day
A Velvet Mushroom upholstery shop at 110 S Ann Arbor St and the home of Benny and Bonnie Shedd suffered extensive fire damage. Firefighters worked 6 40 to 8 pm with fault wiring suspected. Saline firefighters also extinguished a chimney blaze around 11 am at 758 Jordan Rd causing minor smoke damage.

Turnout Sets Saline Record in Election Vote
Saline voters produced a record turnout of 2 643, 79.2 percent of registered voters. National results favored Ford over Carter locally, with Saline backing Esch over Riegle, Pursell over Pierce, and GOP wins in county races while some statewide contests went to Democrats.
