Saline Chamber Plans Special Meet on Lot Petition

At a noontime session Monday at Martys the Saline Chamber of Commerce will push a downtown development program for 1963. The group will wrap up a resolution and petition to City Council urging an additional municipal parking lot at the southwest corner of Michigan Avenue and Ann Arbor Street and pledging to improve the central business district. The meeting will also elect officers for the coming year and outline plans for the April 2 annual dinner.

Demonstration on First Aid Scheduled at Intermediate School

The Saline Child Study Club sponsors an evening of emergency first aid at 8 p m on Tuesday March 19 at the Intermediate School. Inspector Ben Zahn of the Ann Arbor Fire Department will lead a mouth to mouth respiration portion and the public is urged to attend.

Michigan Week awards draw growing entries this year

Milton Kendrick of Michigan Consolidated Gas says firms in industry agriculture and civic groups have less than three weeks to enter the Michigan Week competition. He notes entries this year are far ahead of last year and urges qualified applicants to enter to gain national attention. County level judging must occur by March 25 with William Crim coordinating Region 15.

Saline Police buy siren and public address system

The Saline Police association bought an emergency siren and loudspeaker system for use in police cars. Chief Jim Levett said the PA can warn residents during civil defense, tornadoes, or similar crises and instruct the public. The equipment cost over $200, funded by association events including wrestling matches at Saline High School.

Two Hurt in Auto Accidents Here

Two people injured in separate crashes on slippery roads near Saline this week. Charles Van Valkenberg, 24, Tecumseh, treated for severe facial and knee lacerations after his car struck a bridge abutment on Monroe Street. Elizabeth Charles, Milan, was reported improving at St. Joseph Mercy hospital after a Saline Milan road collision caused a broken jaw and a crash into an embankment and utility pole.

Final session of the Pitts Grange Euchre Tourney crowned winners. Ladies first prize went to Mrs. Florence Armbruster with Mrs. Erwin Weidmeyer second and Mrs. Helen Sohni third. Mayor Jack Bennett proclaims March 1963 as Easter Seal Month in Saline urging community support for the Easter Seal Society. The drive runs from March 12 1963 with 80+ disabled residents in Saline receiving treatment and funds largely staying in the area to aid rehabilitation.

Easter Seal Drive Opens in Saline With Proclamation

The annual Easter Seal Drive for cripples aid opened in Saline with a mayoral proclamation by Jack Bennett and 1500 stamp batches mailed. Local envelopes were prepared by Larry Smiths typing class at the high school and staffed by volunteers Miss Sidni Heiserman and the Mader sisters. The Michigan Society for Crippled Children and Adults county chapter supports wheelchairs braces and other orthopedic items, campships, recreation, vocational counseling, clinics, transport to facilities, and national research programs.
