Saline Band directed by Malcolm Danforth rehearsed on a snow day for the District 12 Junior High Band Festival at Harper Woods. Saline Community Center Open House Draws 150

About 150 people attended Saline's new Community Center open house last Sunday drawing neighbors from Detroit and potential movers. The Recreation Commission named entries in the suggest name contest and invited bids for future activities, including youth programs, dances, fitness classes, and a pool, tennis courts, and ball diamond on Monroe Street. Volunteers offered to help as chaperones or maintenance staff while door prizes went to Vi Harrison Bob Jacobs Jerry DuLong Alice Hack Esther Heininger and prizes were provided by local merchants and Jude's Boutique Dancer's and Saline Pharmacy.

Saline Students Join 1971 Musical Youth International Tour

Eight Saline High students earned spots in MYI groups for the concert band or choir. Selected talents include Jane Steiner, Mark Klein, Mark Gage, Sarah Christner, David Carman, and brothers James and Brian Bilyea, with Bruce Morton added to the choir. MYI will tour northern Europe and perform in Canada, visiting Holland, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Poland, and Germany. The program partners with families abroad, under MYI founder Lester McCoy and executive director Bernice McCoy. A flea market and bake sale by the Junior Child Study Club is set for March 19 at the Presbyterian Church.

Mays Expand Antique Car Collection in Saline

The Mike and Kathryn May family of Spring St. Saline build an on site garage of restored and in progress autos. They own a 1903 Stanley Steamer, a 1905 Yale, and a 1915 Ford Model T and plan more work including restoration efforts. The Mays and local groups anticipate spring events and community fundraisers, including a Jaycee gas station fundraiser and a Legion dinner supporting Boys State trips.
