Saline Board Told Gifted Program Not Yet Realized
Russell Ernest, a Union School teacher, told the Saline Area School Board last Tuesday that a gifted and talented program in the district does not exist. He cited a year of little progress since a 1976 proposal and described efforts as hindered by lack of organization and clear guidelines. The board and Curriculum Committee discussed the need and called for a special meeting on March 21 to review progress and set concrete actions.

Saline gymnasts place 8th at regionals in tough meet
Saline High finished 8th among 28 schools at the regional tournament in Pioneer gym Ann Arbor with a team score of 100.1, improving on last year’s 17th place. Julie Plummer narrowly missed the state tourney in tumbling, placing 11th. Tracy Waldo scored 7.75 for 14th. Chris Rotunno broke into the top 20 in tumbling. Vandals Strike Curtiss Park After Warm Weather
Police report first spring vandalism in Curtiss Park as a car drove over parking posts late Tuesday. Earlier, Saline Public Library basement Reading Room damage prompted temporary closure and repairs. A young adult faced assault and careless driving charges after resisting questioning. An attempted auto theft on Tower Dr is under investigation.

Fire Department Open House and Budget Meeting Planned
Townships of Lodi Saline and York along with the City of Saline hold an 8 p.m. meeting at the Saline Area Fire Hall to adopt the 1977 78 budget. The event doubles as the annual open house inviting citizens to attend. Ray Alberto is expected to be promoted to Fire Chief replacing retired Harold Armbruster.

EPA approves sewer study grant for Saline Pittsfield
The City of Saline and Pittsfield Township win a 75 percent EPA grant for a sewer and water study at the Sewage Treatment Plant and lines. Michigan will add 5 percent. the city covers 20 percent. A 6,000 reimbursement offsets part of the city share.

Saline High Bands Shine At Ida District Festival
Saline High School bands impressed judges at Ida High School with top rankings. The Wind Ensemble earned Straight I ratings for style and direction, while Danforth’s band received an overall II rating and praise for discipline and training. Freshmen band scored Straight I with high talent, good sound, and strong training noted.
