Lions to play Saline All-Stars for booster fund

A benefit basketball game at Saline High School on March 27 features Detroit Lions grid stars against Saline Booster All-Stars. Proceeds aid the Saline Area Athletic Booster Club scholarship fund and athletic improvements. Tickets cost 2 for adults and 1 for students.

Police Report From Saline details runaways and thefts

Two runaways from Boysville at Macon were picked up by Saline Police on March 1 and returned that morning. A Remington with a green sling case was stolen from a Ford parking lot valued at 175 dollars. On Feb. 28 Robert Blaine and two juveniles were linked to larcenies from Westside Hardware and Saline Pharmacy. a larceny warrant is sought for Blaine and juveniles referred to probate court. Chris Goerke was assaulted after a tournament game and the incident is under investigation. About 10 gallons of gasoline were stolen from a school bus at the Intermediate School on Feb. 26.

Fatal Railroad Crossing Study Without Decision Yet

The Michigan Public Service Commission inspected three crossings Bemis Willis and Stoney Creek in Saline after a fatal car train crash that killed Kristen-Marie Martin. Officials residents and witnesses attended with 1820 people present including Mayor Hubert Beach and Police Chief James Levett. Inspectors from the MPSC and Department of Commerce will file a report in about three weeks. If signals are needed installation could begin in 6 to 8 months with railroad objections due within 21 days. If not needed appeals may move to higher hearings and potentially Circuit Court. Mayor Beach quoted a PSC spokesman favoring warning lights at the crossings.

Saline Hornets Rally Past Lincoln in Tight District Thriller

Steve Sheldon reports Saline led by Dave Ziegler who scored 32 and grabbed 30 rebounds as the Hornets beat Lincoln 73 65. Slepsky added 16 and Skinner 13 while Saline outboarded 51 38, with coach Jim Bradley praising Jim Hill on the boards.
