Wanda Finn praised a Red Cross blood drive at Houghton School that yielded 98 pints on day one and 98 on day two for a total of 496 pints. The Saline area communal effort boosted the blood bank balance, with donors like Jeanne Hess and Jan Girbach credited for strong participation.
Neilson Watling of N. Lewis St joined a select group by reaching four gallons and tallying 32 pints. Others, including Warren Hanson Eileen Austin and Leon Feldkamp, hit two gallons this week while new donors Doris Gordon Harley Powell Robert Carmichael Willard Feldkamp Milton Finkbeiner Pete Slepsky Robert Austin Ron Wild Keith Munsell Renee Osterhout and Geraldine Uphaus joined the list. Next week the Reporter will publish the full roster of 196 donors who supported the Bloodmobile clinic.
Saline police handled two traffic accidents on June 21. Geoffrey Spickard, 13, was struck by Timothy Bredernitz as he backed from a driveway on Ann Arbor Street. no serious injuries and no ticket. Pamela Landi, crossing Whitlock to enter J C Family Foods, was struck by Marion Mahnke. Landi cited for failing to yield. A June 6 high speed chase ended in 14th District Court with a 17 year old pleading guilty to fleeing an officer and facing possible penalties.
A Waterworks Road resident posts a $25 reward for anyone identifying the culprits behind repeated mailbox thefts and vandalism. The offer promises confidentiality and follows a pattern of incidents along the rural Waterworks corridor, with residents citing slow Sheriff’s Department response and praise for State Police help.
Saline Planning Commission approved the Master Plan 7 to 2 after a brief 2% hour hearing with only four attendees. Some members urged more studies before adoption, while others supported using the plan as a framework for future growth and revisions.
Saline Police Chief Jim Levileit says yellow rubber guideposts titled Ugly Little Devils will be erected at the four curb cuts at Michigan Ave and Ann Arbor St to mark pedestrian zones after curbs were removed for barrier free access. The devices aim to prevent close vehicle contact with pedestrians and will spring back after impacts. The city acts to prevent injuries despite no reported incidents since curb removal.
