At the Saline school board meeting, dietician Paula Haarer reported only about 20 percent of local students eat breakfast. A breakfast program could require rescheduling morning bus routes to reach all students, with current visits showing meals served on arrival followed by an 8:30 a.m. assembly.
Saline Musical Youth International begins intensive rehearsals for a 1977 tour abroad. They will perform in Leningrad Kiev and Moscow from June 26 to July 12 with homestays in Jutland and Copenhagen. The final concerts include a Saline High School event July 29 and Hill Auditorium July 31. Auditions for 1978 Festival Tour to follow.
In Saline, an incumbent victory margin of 29 votes approved a 16.78 mill for district operations for next year, while a 3-year maintenance millage failed 1 030 to 774. Washtenaw ISD special education millage passed county-wide but failed locally 973 to 832. Incumbent Bill Taylor won the school board seat. Bruce Paxton and Elaine Heiserman won four-year terms. Approximately 1,887 ballots cast from about 5,000 voters.
Saline area reports a quiet week for fire and police with a car engine fire on Willis Rd and US 23 causing engine damage but no injuries. Vandals smeared Limburger cheese on Paul Pascal 1965 Chrysler at 263 N Maple St. A 1977 Chevy owner Gerald Roe had a headlight broken and scratches. A bicyclist minor injuries after a collision near Clark gas on W Michigan Ave. A crash on Michigan Ave west of town sent 35 year old John F Anderson of Brooklyn to Saline Community Hospital in satisfactory condition.
In mid 1977 Saline Community Hospital urges former donors to settle 1973 pledges dating four years, noting loans funded building and equipment. June 1977 is set for settlement, with inquiries at 429-5435 ext 312.
The Saline Area Players stage Agatha Christie Mousetrap Thursday through Saturday in the high school theater with eight suspects snowbound in an English inn. Tickets cost 2.50 for adults and 2.00 for students, available at Citizens Bank of Saline or at the door.
