Fire crews extinguish straw pile blaze at Elwood Hansen farm
Saline volunteer firefighters responded Wednesday afternoon to a straw pile fire near a barn at 9840 Burmeister Rd. The flames were put out in minutes with no injuries or damages reported. Earlier, they doused an oven fire at 8742 Saline-Milan Rd Douglas Mall residence with no damages.
Manager's bold move decides Saline league crown
In a tense Saline Recreation League final Bennett's Gulf Service beat Milan Fast Pitch 4-3 to claim the title. Manager Jack Kuebler faced doubt after pulling starting pitcher Jan Losee for Dick Curtis, who then allowed Milan's two early runs before Bennett's rally tied and then won in the sixth as Dick Lehtonen scored the decisive run. Rainouts halted other league play and the Saline Tournament was postponed.
