At a joint meeting, the Recreation Commission and City Council outlined Area 1 2 3 and 4 concepts for upgrading Saline recreation facilities. Proposed are building additions a 2400 sq ft pool a 500 sq ft wading pool and a 50 car lot with fencing totaling 235192 plus contingencies.
Saline efforts for the March of Dimes amount to 2320.39 with current receipts 556.76 from Special Events 138 from Businesses and Organizations 163 from Mailers 96.35 from Canisters. The Mothers' March grossed 1366.28 and surpassed last year. Gratitude is given to multiple volunteers for Special Events including Mary Jo Swan Shirley Williams Jones Hansen Harold Smith Joan Starkey W D Davis Irene Krivsky Betsy Meister.
Saline youth group promotes a Drop-In Center for teen and community recreation and support. They have trained staff and seek high school students and adults to help staff. An information meeting is set for Sunday February 13 at 7 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church on East Michigan Ave. Attendees encouraged to learn about the program and staff opportunities.
Assistant Superintendent Michael Rotunno outlined Saline High School’s readiness for the March 7 8 9 accreditation visit by 19 evaluators from nearby districts. Self evaluation reports cover eight areas and will inform interviews with administration teachers and students during the three day inspection. The final report goes to the North Central chairman and regional offices in Chicago with follow up improvements expected weeks after the visit.
Saline Kiwanis Club hosts its 8th annual All You Can Eat Pancake Supper at Saline Middle School from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Proceeds benefit Kiwanis Community Service. Tickets via members or at 429-7914. at the door.
One hundred fifty well wishers gathered at a Mule Barn dance in Bridgewater honoring Joe and Donna Rodgers new barber and beautician. Florence Bramley Saline Post Office mail lady will work her last rounds Feb 29 moving to northern Michigan.
At the Saline City Council meeting awards were given for combined fire department service exceeding a century. The program honored Rollie Goltz for 25 years and multiple others for 20, 15, 10, and 5 year tenures as the council addressed a lengthy agenda including a wastewater plant change order and subdivision concerns.
The Jaycee sponsored event at Henne Field on January 30 drew about 300 participants and spectators. Organizers Robert Bykowski and Nancy Welch noted many age group races from 25 to 1,000 yards with multiple winners and ribbons to be distributed after arrival details in The Reporter.
