Mike Strait Injured In Fall From Ladder

Elwin Strait superintendent of the city Department of Public Works suffered a fractured hip and broken knee in a 16 foot fall while DPW crew was putting up Christmas decorations on E Michigan Ave. He was moved from Saline Community Hospital to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital and will be in traction at least six weeks. Hornets Open Conference Play At Dexter Tilt

Saline Hornets head to a Friday conference opener against Dexter after a non league 75 to 69 loss to Milan. Gary Kind led Saline with 19 points while Jim Feldkamp and Harold Kudler added 12 each as Saline outshot Milan but were hurt by 23 Milan fouls.

Five Saline Stores Hit in Week of Break-ins

Five Saline area shops suffered gun and cash thefts in a week long spree. John W. Dicks Gun Smith lost 24 firearms valued at 1900 and family Lefever shotgun. H I Johnson Implement Company hid $115 cash. Other sites included Saline Lumber, Still's Laundry, and Saline Auto Parts with entries or attempted entries. Police found fingerprints at all five locations.

Saline High School Holds Annual Football Banquet

About 200 people attended Saline High School’s annual football banquet at the school Tuesday night. The event honored the varsity and junior varsity squads with players, parents, coaches and spouses in attendance. Clyde Griffin and Mrs. Griffin donated a “water bubbler” fountain in honor of their son Jim, and the 1963 game films were shown in the Little Theatre after dinner.
