Michigan Beans To Aid Starving Biafra Relief Drive
Five hundred thousand pounds of Michigan beans aboard the freighter African Blade are headed for Biafra to feed the hungry, following an earlier July shipment. Michigan CROP Director Russell M. Hartzler notes CWS trucks ferried beans from Merrill to ensure the August 9 sailing date. Additional Michigan CROP aid has gone to Congo, Ghana, Malawi, Taiwan, Haile, and a cargo of Holstein heifers to the Dominican Republic. Hartzler says the earlier reserves are exhausted and a faith purchase of 17 500 dollars funded the current shipment. Five dollars pays for shipside delivery of enough beans for over 500 servings.
