Saline County 1961 tax collections show strong receipts

Countywide 94.74 percent of the 1961 levy of 2,844,520.49 has been collected with Saline's share at 96.5 percent. Saline’s 1961 levy totals 37,762.40 collected so far, with township results including Bridgewater 94 percent, Lodi 95.8 percent, Pittsfield 88.8 percent, Saline 94.9 percent, and York 92.8 percent, plus respective returns.

Bid Accepted for US-12 and US-23 Pavement Repairs

The State Highway department accepted a $17 785 bid from Washtenaw Asphalt Co. of Ann Arbor for pavement repairs on US-12 at Saline and on US-23 between Five and Six Mile Roads. Three bids were submitted with a completion date of October 15.

Saline Boy Joins Overseas All-Stars In Little League

Rob Royal son of Captain and Mrs Robert Royal former Saline resident was selected as one of 14 boys including four 11 year olds to join the Zaragoza All-Star Little League from Zaragoza Spain Air Force Base. The team won the Spanish overseas championship and defeated Moroccan champions to reach Paris for the European title. Royal has played third baseman pitcher and catcher for three years and is grandson of the late Clayton Royal and the MacArthurs.

Area Social Service Seeks New Office Location

Saline area Social Services Inc reports it must move from its N Ann Arbor Street office by October 1. The agency has aided 15 families in its first year with clothing dental care transportation food and Christmas baskets and now seeks new quarters for storage donations and filing space amid ongoing space-finding efforts.

Miss Saline Contest Seeks Entries For 1963 Pageant

No entries have yet been submitted for the annual Miss Saline contest sponsored by the Jaycees. Miss Saline and two court members will be crowned on Thursday night during the Fair week, September 13. Katrene Gall of 1962 will attend the State Fair parade Friday and participate in Miss Michigan events August 28. The Jaycees will not request gifts from merchants this year, thanking them for past support. Eligible contestants are unmarried Saline area residents aged 16 to 24.

Sidewalk Sale Winners Shine Amid Bargain Hunt

Dozens won prizes during the annual Chamber of Commerce sidewalk sales with contests at Anderson's department store and Estes Rexall. Sharon Lamberson won first in bubble gum, while Janice Austin placed second and Nancy Finkbeiner and Steven Kohler earned thirds.
