The Bemis and Weber road stretches near town, once quiet back routes, are now seen as dangerous after two bike accidents. A recent fatal crash follows a prior minor injury, underscoring that rural roads have changed and demand constant caution for riders and pedestrians alike.
County officials say recent Maple Road work is engineering only and not the start of a 1972 project to widen the two lane road to a 24 foot blacktop with wider shoulders. Plans call for four lanes north of Saline and a traffic light near Hive Points, with funding via primary road status.
An eighth grader left Saline Junior High after being accused of distributing pills. She was readmitted the next day after her parents and the student pledged no repetition. Officials say the situation is under close observation.

Saline's Tree Committee met to organize a tree planting and beautification program. Harry Miller named chairman and John Layher tasked to buy seedlings via the Soil Conservation District.
