Saline High School students dominated regional awards at Eastern Michigan University with half the first prizes among 16 categories from 8000 students across 22 schools. Dan Bird won a state grand prize and a $100 bond for an electric guitar. Gene Callison and multiple teammates earned top regional honors, under mentors Ed Dubais and Dallas Garrett.

Raymond Melouney, 39, vice president of Junior Chamber International, visited Saline this week during a longer U.S. tour. He stayed with Saline Jaycees president George Newton and was joined by G Merritt Martin, state president, on a 82 day 14 state circuit through Oklahoma Arkansas Kansas Nebraska Illinois Kentucky Georgia Michigan Ohio Indiana New Jersey Florida New York before returning to Durban South Africa. Melouney was elected JCI vice president at the XVIII World Congress in Tel Aviv last November. His duties outside the U.S. include Mauritius Northern Rhodesia Nyasaland South Africa Southern Rhodesia and Swaziland. Conrad O'Brien of Port-of-Spain Trinidad has tasked Melouney with expanding JCI into Basutoland Kenya Mozambique and Tanganyika.

Two school board seats will be filled at the June 8 school election. Terms for Ray Girbach and Harold Brown expire that year. Alumni to Deliver Invocation at 96th Commencement
Glenn Hagen a Saline native and 1955 Saline High School graduate will give the invocation and benediction for the 96th annual commencement week on June 4. A Capitol University alumnus, he will graduate May 31 from the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary and is preparing for ordination in the United Church of Christ. He has served as assistant pastor in Dubuque and belongs to Tau Kappa Alpha.

Local Husband Faces Charge of Wife's Attempted Murder
A 26 year old Saline man is jailed after admitting to attacking his wife with a rope and attempting to hang her in the basement to stage a death by action. Police say the wife revived, sought help, and is expected to be released after medical care. The husband was arrested in Ann Arbor on request of Saline Police.

Saline High School junior Sue Washburn was elected state president of the Future Homemakers of America at a three day Michigan convention in Grand Rapids attended by more than 1 500 delegates. Saline High Students to Receive Free Fair Passes
Saline High School students will receive free passes to the 1964 Saline Community Fair distributed through the school. Children up to eighth grade enter free. adults and out of town students pay 35 cents. The Fair Board cited community enjoyment as the reason and noted other actions including food booth oversight by American Legion and Auxiliary, a wool needlework contest, and the Grand Ole Opry contract for Saturday night.
