Erosion Control Structure Replaces Open Ditch
Harold Feldcamp, a Saline township dairy farmer, replaced a ditch with a concrete drop spillway waterway. Water enters via a culvert, flows through a saucer shaped channel 96 feet wide and 112 feet deep, falls one inch per foot, and travels 1500 feet to a concrete apron. Tile outlets keep the waterway dry, while a sod waterway provides safe fast drainage. The old ditch averaged 6 feet by 15 to 20 feet and was a safety hazard. Feldcamp received ASC assistance covering 25 to 50 percent of costs. the system was engineered by Soil Conservation Services Technicians.
