Bean Harvest Prospects Dented by Drought in Key States
Michigan and Montana drought trimmed the national bean yield forecast, with September estimates showing 17.254 million bushels for the United States, up from last year but below August projections. White bean production in Michigan could fall about 339 thousand bushels from last year, while overall U. S. white bean output may drop 160 thousand bushels from 1928. The crop outlook is weak in Michigan despite strong stands elsewhere, and prices may remain high as stocks draw down.
