Trinity Ev Lutheran Mission Festival Expected Next Sunday

Trinity Ev Lutheran church schedules three services for its annual Mission Festival next Sunday. Rev O J Eckert from St Pauls Saginaw will speak at 10 a m English service. Rev R J Koch Zilwaukee will preach at 3 p m German service. Rev Karl Krauss Lansing ex president of the Michigan District will preach at 8 p m. Bible school begins Saturday at 9 a m. The note adds a fact about the Pacific coast mole salamander reaching 10 inches.

New Ford School Well Attended

The Edison Institute operates a one room Ford school near the Ford mill with 26 students in grades four through seven. Henry Ford visited on opening day and praised the program emphasizing manners, self-reliance, and a personal approach to learning with modern methods and locally sourced materials.

Edison Company Will Co-operate With War Board

The Detroit Edison Company will fully cooperate with the War Production Board in a voluntary electricity conservation program to save coal and materials for the war. The WPB urges customers to turn off nonessential lighting and outlines allowances for essential lighting and displays. J W Parker of Detroit Edison says voluntary restraint can work and notes a 5 percent monthly reduction could save about 11 500 tons of coal and 14 000 manhours, enough capacity remains for needs. Also details 1948 War Chest drive in several townships with Michigan quota of 4 500 000 and county quota 113 000. Milan township hosts meeting Sept 27 at 8 p m to organize efforts.

Saline General Hospital reports Daniel Stoiancowski and Frank Francouzer from Milan underwent tonsillectomies last Wednesday. Vera Crawford returned home Friday after a minor operation. Several Milan residents including Marjorie Bredernitz William Bach and Verne Hills are cited with health notes and home recoveries. A Sept. 15 birth is recorded for Rohan Scantland and for George Kimerer, with another Sept. 18 birth to Homer Cowdrey’s family. An Army glider note recalls Sicily invasion.

Ruhr Machine Leader Describes Tool and Die Industry

Saline Rotary Club heard J F Ruhr president of Ruhr Machine and Tool Co of Ann Arbor and R B Tool Co of this city discuss the tool and die industry. He recalled starting in 1911 with 400 dollars and wages of ten dollars weekly for sixteen hours daily, charting progress from hand wagons to modern methods and noting the local firm’s plan to operate full time after the duration with expanded employment. Edward Redies, factory manager, chairs this month’s program committee. Visitors included G M Jones Thurlow Rodley and Elmer F Lange.
