A fire at Universal Die Casting and Manufacturing Corp in Saline started around 11 A.M. Tuesday when a hydraulic system failure on a die casting machine ignited a tar roof. Firefighters controlled the blaze quickly with spectators staying behind lines. only one damaged machine remains down as the plant shifts to a non inflammable hydraulic system.
William Densham Jr from Dexter and Glenn O Weber of Saline are named new members of the Farmers Home Administration County Committee, replacing William Pritchard and R Vincent Ives as their terms expire. The committee screens loan applicants and advises the county supervisor on FHA program operations, including loans for farming, farm improvements, and rural housing.
Lenawee County Fair runs September 15 through 20 at Adrian Michigan featuring a three ring circus professional wrestling and trotting races among many amusements. Details available in the newspaper ad.

Mrs Minnie C McTaggart born March 28 1877 in Pittsfield Township died September 4 1952. She married Rev George E McTaggart in June 1907 at York Township and he died January 3 1944. The Rotary Club of Saline hosted Alan P. Brander district governor of 222 Rotary International on September 4. He discussed administration and service with local officers and noted Rotary’s global reach with 7 600 clubs and 360 000 members in 83 regions.

Keith Edwards and his orchestra will perform at the American Legion Free Dance at the Saline American Legion hall. The event starts at 8 30 P M on Saturday September 18 sponsored by the Memorial Home Association of William B Lutz Post 22. Rund and square dancing will be featured with refreshments. Proceeds honor local Korean War veterans. Everyone is invited for a good time.

Raymond Girbach Ernest Girbach and James Gleason of Saline earned multiple prizes at the Michigan State Fair last week. The Girbach brothers showed Poland China hogs and were top money winners in their class, while James Gleason earned several prizes with his Yorkshire hogs.
