Spartan Barley Proves High Yielding In Michigan State Trials
Michigan State College released Spartan Barley last spring for growers statewide. Thirty three Crop Improvement Association members received seed for testing and to ensure good seed supply for 1928. Top yield was 62.14 bushels per acre by F A Lundy of Coleman with Alfred Grueber of Frankenmuth second at 61.4 bushels. Spartan barley is a two row, early maturing variety with stiff straw and smooth beards aiding handling and threshed grain. In other news Ben Ayers suffered a severe hand injury while rebuilding a cellar doorway when a heavy stone fell. Clinton Local.
