Harvest Moon Signals Autumn's Arrival

A full harvest moon will mark autumn at 3:07 a m on September 23 as the sun crosses the equator and day and night equalize. Professor Hazel M Losh of the University of Michigan notes daylight will exceed darkness by up to eight minutes, with equal lengths not until September 26. The moon rises early for several nights near the equinox, creating bright evenings.

Astronomers Describe Andromeda Square and Great Nebula

Professor Losh notes a sky arrangement with four stars forming a square rising in the eastern sky. The northeastern star is part of Andromeda, with a line of three Andromeda stars parallel to the horizon. The Great Nebula above the third star may be a Milky Way like universe about 1500000000 light years away.
