Record Crowd Attends Fair

A record crowd of over 1 200 attended the Community Fair on Friday night for the seventh annual event. The program featured music by the band and Glee Club, a Marine Life of a Marine film, an operetta by fifth and sixth graders, and an amateur contest with multiple prize winners. Proceeds fund bonds and stamps with two War Stamp booths selling 30 30 dollars worth of stamps. exhibits included rural school displays, an antique show by the Home Economics Club, and thanks to sponsors and volunteers from local businesses and schools.

Stationary Kitchen Opens to Red Cross Members

The Red Cross laboratory kitchen at North hail opened Sept 25 for the Canteen monthly luncheon. It serves as a practical mass feeding space with two gas ranges and an electric refrigerator. A adjoining dining room seats fifty for members and friends from across the county.

Local School Records Historic Enrollment and Repairs

Since opening on September 3, the local school has enrolled 398 pupils the largest in its history. Teachers have increased workload due to labor turnover and higher wages in industry and larger district staffing. The curriculum has been compressed and shop training authorized for forty boys by state and university directives. Desks and chairs were refurbished and moved to where needed, saving about $80. The school remains accredited for two more years and stands improved despite wartime conditions.
