Columbus Cross Lighthouse Memorial Nearing Reality
An international jury selects an English architect J L Greavey of Nottingham to design a cross shaped lighthouse memorial to Columbus on Santo Domingo harbor. The project backs a beacon combining air and sea navigation with bas reliefs of Columbus, and involves Pan American funding and public support from the United States and Latin American nations.
