Church Leaders To Convene In Saline

Leaders of the Epworth League and Methodist youth workers will gather in Saline for a three day conference December 8 9 and 10. Dr Blaine E Kirkpatrick and Rev Owen M Geer head the event with district officers clergymen and lay leaders attending. The program centers on youth driven study units and discussion aimed at modern American life. After regional meetings a chain of district and sub district gatherings will extend the method to local chapters.

Public Health Program At School Hall Tonight

A Rotary sponsored health program is set for the high school auditorium this Thursday evening under Mrs. T S Weber of Ypsilanti. Dr. Howard Ross of Ann Arbor will speak on First Aid in Emergencies. The Saline Boy Scouts will demo and a Michigan State Normal College quartet will perform with pieces ranging from classical to folk songs.

Saline forms two competitive squads for the upcoming season. Players will share costs equally after each game or practice, replacing the old per player assessment method. The club aims for strong fan turnout and a season matching past gym-packed crowds. Prospective players meet Wednesdays to showcase talent.

Mrs Marie M Schneider 50 Dies In Ann Arbor

Mrs Marie M Schneider wife of Conrad W Schneider of Ann Arbor died Friday morning born March 22 1883 in Freedom township daughter of John and Katherine Shief Roller. She lived in Ann Arbor since age 18 and belonged to Eastern Star Ann Arbor Chapter 122 and Bethlehem church. Survived by husband three sisters four brothers and a sister in law. Funeral Sunday at 2 30 Rev T R Schmale officiating interment Fairview cemetery with the Order of Eastern Star in charge at the grave.

Jonesville Woman Fights Off Night Intruder With New Revolver

Miss Luree Chilson, after losing many fowls, bought a revolver for protection. She fired at a man who entered the woodshed near Jonesville as she stood in the shed fetching apples. The intruder fled to a waiting car. police conducted a search and followed leads to Clinton Lozal.

A 50 percent drop in death rate is celebrated as a Christmas seal gift to Michigan from anti tuberculosis workers after 25 years of service. The Michigan Tuberculosis Association and 24 local societies financed the program through annual Christmas seal sales.

Rotarians Highlight Week With Meeting and Round-Up

Rotary club at The Tavern last Thursday noon featured Earl Dietiker leading a revealing questionnaire. Scores ranged 20 to 65 as Dr. Woodbridge posted the high mark while Dr. Wallace fared poorly. Tonight the district governor visits for a sprout program demonstration. Friday night Saline and Benton 4-H clubs hold their annual round-up at the auditorium with potluck banquet and awards by H. S. Large Crowd Attends P T A Meeting at School

A large crowd gathered Monday evening at the school auditorium for a P T A meeting chaired by Mrs. Daniel Hall. The program featured the German Band with members Fritz Adolf Johannes Jacob Heinrich and Gottlieb, two Marie Sisson piano solos, Miss Christine Schaller with accompanist Mrs. Merritt, Martin's trio of songs, a one act play Wisdom Teeth by Jean Carleen Burkhart Erwin Schmid Eileen Martin and Frances Bowen, and a talk by Miss Cora Haas on current school conditions. The German Band closed with two final selections.

Stebbins Family Payroll on State Roll Grows

Lieut-Gov Allen E Stebbins is quoted on a payroll increase. Earlier reports listed five Stebbinses on the public payroll. The failure to include Delbert Stebbins a temporary Sheridan postmaster and Miles Menningh a state highway employee adds two more, totaling seven Stebbins on state pay.

Double Wedding at Methodist Parsonage

A double wedding took place Tuesday evening at the Methodist parsonage when Richard Clark and Miss Virginia Jeffrey and Harold G. Chalmers and Miss Velma Wolff of Ann Arbor were united in marriage. Rev. Bert Ede performed the double ring ceremony. Clark is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward A. Clark of this place and Miss Jeffrey attended school here for several years.
