Debate links Michigan vote to Hitler’s impact on 1940 race
The piece argues that national events shaped Michigan choices in 1940 with Roosevelt and Van Wagoner benefiting from a shift in public mood after Europe’s collapse. It notes defense urgency, wartime policy shifts, and polls guiding voters toward strong leaders, citing Roosevelt and Willkie as key figures. It ends with an advertisement for Ada Tablets.

Michigan School Populations Fall Ahead of Projections
A Michigan survey by J F Thaden of Michigan State College projects continued enrollment declines through the next decade. Elementary enrollment drops from 838,890 in 1920 to 691,544 in 1938 due to fewer births, signaling lower high school and college numbers within four to ten years. Potential reforms include a five year high school and college structure and expanded compulsory attendance, intensifying superintendent competition for rural pupils.
