Wilde files for Saline school board race
Lauren Wilde filed a nominating petition with more than the required 25 signatures for the Saline school board on May 14 before the May 18 deadline. A Ypsilanti native, Wilde moved with his family to Saline six years ago from Grosse Pointe Woods and is married to Eleanor. He has four Saline school children and works as an outstate representative for Douglas Offset Co. Wilde has led local groups including Kiwanis and Band Parents Club, served as Scoutmaster, and advised Explorer Scouts. If no last minute contender enters, Wilde would oppose incumbent Oliver Steiner for a three year term.

Peppy Day Sale By American Legion Auxiliary Planned
The American Legion Auxiliary will hold its Peppy Day sale Friday and Saturday May 22 and 23 in Flanders Field business district. Cloth poppies, made by hospitalized veterans, support families of needy veterans and hospital work. Mrs. Orville Finkbeiner chairs the event, with Mrs. Silas Nord leading the sale. A window display at Uphaus Electric advertises the event in Salina.

Road Commission Honors Employee on 35th Year
Erwin Rothfuss of Saline was among two County Road Commission staff to receive a 35 year service certificate at the annual Service Award dinner at the Saline American Legion Hall. Ten other employees were cited for 5 10 80 and 35 years, certificates presented by H L Frisinger R L Koch and C O McLaughlin. Mr and Mrs Andrew Poet and their son Stanley visited Mrs Poet's mother Mrs Mary Szyndlar at Romulus on Mother’s Day.

Houghtons Mourn Mother at 78 in Houghton Lake
Funeral services were held May 11 at Houghton Lake for Mrs. Levi Houghton mother of Elmer Houghton Saline High School principal. The 78 year old died after a lengthy illness leaving husband one other son three daughters and six grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs Elmer Houghton and their two children were summoned north by her death.
