Fifteen year old Michael Washburn of Saline wins senior boys division at the first annual Southeastern Michigan Science Fair held at the University of Michigan. He attends Saline High and competes against top students from across the nation. His exhibit titled Development and Anatomy of a Fish features live and preserved specimens and was evaluated during a trip with his teacher George Bonich to the national competition in Hartford and New London. The six final prizes go to students from Indiana Texas California Louisiana and Detroit Patricia Van de Vyver. The trip included hotel stays and a submarine base tour with science educators and the day-to-day coverage notes the family plans for the junior division next year.
