Former Resident Clifford Bassett Dies in Detroit
Clifford E. Bassett died suddenly from heart disease on Saturday at the Absopure Ice Company plant in Detroit. He was about to place a purchased piece of ice in his car when he was stricken and died within moments. The funeral was held Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at his late residence 2046 Atkinson Avenue with Rev. Walter R. Fruit officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery Saline. Bassett, born in Saline about 58 years ago, lived with his parents on the farm north of town, graduated from Saline High in 1881, studied at the University of Michigan, served in the railway mail service on the Detroit-Chicago run, and for 12 years led a large Detroit insurance agency. Surviving are his widow formerly Miss Hattie M. Ford of Saline, two daughters Miss Nareens a Cass High School teacher and Miss Aletha a Northern High School student in Detroit.
