More than 60 people started a Red Cross water safety instructor training course at the University of Michigan Intramural Pool. The sessions run 7 to 10 pm this week, led by Daniel Stango with Miss Gertrude Montgomery and Jerry Greenlick aiding, as part of county and regional safety efforts.

A nationwide Civil Defense practice alert is set for May 21 to test Washtenaw county and national readiness for nuclear attack. Two traffic incidents reported over the weekend in Saline. Jeanne Ann Brosoky 24 of Waterworks Road suffered slight injuries when her 1955 Chevrolet left the road after hitting loose gravel on Waterworks Road and struck a tree. About 500 dollars in damage noted by officer Kirby. Elizabeth H. Fluscher of Detroit received a ticket for not keeping her 1957 Oldsmobile under control after striking a parked 1956 Chevrolet on Harris Street while reaching for a dropped purse. damage estimated at 200 dollars to the parked car and 50 dollars to Fluscher’s car. Saline Youth Helps To Build Satellite Tracker
Eight University of Michigan engineering students completed an earth satellite tracking station on Peach Mountain to aid orbit calculations for Vanguard and Explorer. The Mark II Minitrack uses two 500 foot antennas and a Navy supplied design.
