Fertilizers to Aid Early Maturity of Corn Crop
Prof McCool of Michigan State College says proper fertilizer use speeds corn maturity and shortens the growing season aiding European corn borer control. Experiments across stations test early and date planted corn with varied fertilizers. manure and phosphate levels dominate results. For manure rich soils 300 to 400 pounds of acid phosphate per acre suffice. poorer soils need 44-120 commercial fertilizer at 125 pounds per acre. sandy soils require complete fertilizer with 2-16-2 or 3-12-4 or 4-16-4 analyses. Thorough soil incorporation of 200 to 400 pounds per acre before planting further benefits crop success.
