Beet Growers Urged To Use Fertilizers In Beets
Michigan sugar beet growers are urged by Michigan State College soils staff to use more fertilizer. They say beets respond well to higher plant food levels, boosting tonnage and lowering cost per ton with 416-4 or 416-8 on sand, silt, or clay loams. Broadcast 200-400 pounds after plowing and 100-200 pounds in rows. On fields with recent clover or alfalfa, use 4-16-4, 2-18-6, or 2-20 C fertilizers. Residual effects will appear in subsequent crops.
